Day 5: Provision - 5 Prayers for Anxious Educators

Day 5: Provision

Welcome to the last installment of our 5 Prayers for Anxious Teachers blog series. With COVID and class sizes, learning gaps and the lack of grace, stressed out families and burnt out educators, anxiety may have found a place in your mind and heart. If so, this blog series is for you. This week I will be sharing five prayers for educators to lean on throughout the year, one for each day of the week. Each prayer is powerful, NOT because of any words I wrote, but because of the Word they are based upon. Below are the five scriptures that are the foundation for each prayer. Today’s prayer focuses on provision. Unfortunately, “overworked” and “underpaid” are two words often used to describe our life in the field of education. Regardless, we serve a great and mighty God, Owner of everything and Supplier of every need! Meditate and reflect on the Word as you continue to use it to find strength throughout the year as you do what you do best: Pray. Teach. Repeat. <3

Dear God of the Exhausted Educator,

From my monthly bills to my daily bread, from my classroom to my living room, I know You are the ultimate provider of my every need. When I am tempted to worry and let anxiety take a foothold, let your Spirit remind me that the righteous have NEVER been forsaken! Help my heart be obedient to Your commands to not worry about each day, about what I will eat or wear. When my needs seem to outweigh my seed, remind me that my needs are met through your vast riches and glory and NOT on my own. Let me look to nature and be reminded how carefully You care for it and know that Your care for me exceeds even that! My heart trusts in You fully. Bless me with wisdom in my finances. Enable me to be a good steward of every financial blessing You send my way. You are a good, good, Shepherd and I lack nothing. With You, my cup runneth over. Help me to cast out all doubt that You will take care of me. If you did not withhold Your only Son, Jesus, but gave Him up for my soul’s sake, I know I can count on You to take care of the merely monetary things. Thank you for your provision. In Jesus’ name.

Amen.

5 Foundational Verses

“I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.” -Psalm 37:25 ESV

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” -Matthew 6: 25-34

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:19 KJV

“The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” -Psalm 23:1 NIV

“Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” -Romans 8:32 NLT
